Metamorphosis
During the reign of
King Rama VI, there were thirty-two
residential sites for King Rama
V’s Royal family and entourage at
Suan Sunandha. Princess Suthasineenat,
who was one of King Rama V’s
consorts, resided at the Sai Sutha
Nopadol Mansion in 1924, which is still
a one of the six present excellent
existing mansions.
Princess
Suthasineenat had ladies in waiting at
court, so she commissioned the
construction of Nipakarn School for them
to learn both etiquette and
handicrafts.
During the
reign of King Rama VII in 1937, His
Majesty’s representatives
considered Suan Sunandha as residence of
the Prime Minister, members of the
Cabinet, and members of the Parliament.
Through deliberation, the cabinet
decided to use the site for educational
purpose instead, and passed a resolution
to dedicate Suan Sunandha as a school
for girls named “Suan Sunandha
School” on May 17, 1937. Over many
years, Suan Sunandha has then developed
and expanded to cover various fields of
education. Since her inception, she has
developed through the following
stages:
“Suan Sunandha Palace” a
place that stands as a monument for the
love King Chulalongkorn Rama V held for
Hey Royal Highness SunandhaKumariratana
who drowned in a boat accident while she
was following his Majesty the king. The
loss affected his Majesty deeply and
with his love he constructed a palace
and school as a memorial for his beloved
lost wife. The place was given the name
“Suan Sunandha” meaning
Sunandha Garden. Suan Sunandha turned
into Suan Sunandha College in 1932
during the Thailand political
transition. It was under the
administration of what has now become
the Ministry of Education to serve as
the place for education for women to
serve as the place for education for
women.
In 1937
“Suan Sunandha Coolege
School” was opened for students
from a variety of places such as The
Benjamarachalai School, Chotiwet School
and Petchaburi Wittaya Longkorn School.
The school opened for Grades 4 –
14.
In 1958 the
Ministry of Education transformed Suan
Sunandha College School to Suan Sunandha
Teacher College. The primary and
secondary education became a
demonstration school. In 1990 Royal
Highness King Bhumibol Adulyadej had
given the college its new name as
“Suan Sunandha Rajabhat
Institute”. The school became
“The Primary Demonstration School
and The Secondary Demonstration School
of SuanSunandhaRajabhat
Institute”. The name Changed once
more in 2004 when the Rajabhat intitute
became a university. The schools then
came to be know as “The Primary
Demonstration School and The Secondary
Demonstration School of
SuanSunandhaRajabhat
University”
In 2008 the primary and secondary
education was merged together under the
name “The Demonstration School of
SuanSunandha Rajabhat University”
a leading educational institute that
aims for excellence in every
aspect.
